Backgammon for a Healthy Brain

How do you take care of your brain? You can answer this by determining how you live your life. Different lifestyles of people influence brain functioning. Having a sharp mind is usually developed through engaging in mind-challenging activities. Your eating habits can also determine how well you take care of your brain, and caring for the "seat of consciousness" can either be through eating the right kind of food, or engaging in brain-enhancing activities like Backgammon.

A survey conducted in the 1st half of 2006 revealed that Backgammon players attain a sense of improvement in their cognitive and mental skills. Playing the game regularly has been proven to achieve substantial development in human cognitive and psychological skills. The game can be considered as an exercise tool for a sharper brain.

For years, scientists have tried to understand the connection between playing mind games and the brain's healthy functioning. And their various studies showed that people engaged in intellectually enhancing activities are less likely to have mental deterioration as they age. The recent study showed that backgammon, whether it is played online, or as a board game, helps players to prevent acquiring brain-related diseases.

Backgammon enthusiasts usually play the game to have fun and reduce their boredom, or for financial gain. Most of them do not know that the game not only promises to make their day bright, it also helps them prevent brain disease-related medications. Another study conducted in December 2004 showed that, aside from those reasons behind playing Backgammon, players, unknowingly, combat the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

Aside from the dreaded Alzheimer's disease, Backgammon players are less likely to have dementia, or the loss of cognitive function, due to trauma. In a June 2003 study, experts found out that Backgammon players who play the game regularly engage themselves in intellectual stimulation. The fun, social interaction, and intellectual stimulation, combat the trauma, which is usually the cause of dementia. Experts advise players to, at least, play the game twice a week.

Scientists continue to analyze an even more in-depth relationship between the brain and Backgammon. But, they say that these series of studies were able to show that Backgammon remains one of the secrets behind the healthy functioning of the brain. However, the game's health benefits have proven to be outweighed by the main reasons why Backgammon continues to be one of the world's favorite board and online game. And that is the fun and camaraderie that everyone enjoys while playing Backgammon, not to mention the challange of winning.
