Backgammon Tips

The key to winning backgammon is the doubling cube. However, dropping a cube can't make you win backgammon. Before you make any move we suggest that you go over these four factors first:

1. If your opponent has doubled after you make your move, find the best play that can make your opponent double more.

2. If you know that you should pass a cube after you make a move, find the best play that can make you have the strongest position to take.

3. If you know that you should not double after you make your move, find the best play that can give the best chance to double.

4. If you know that your opponent can take the game after you make the move, find the best play that will make your opponent drop.

After considering these four factors now it's time to consider these guides for the best game:

1. Make sure that you have a plan before you play backgammon. However, make your plan flexible because your plan may change from one roll to the next. But your main goal should always focus on winning the match, not just one game.

2. Know how and when to make use of match equity tables and how to make your doubling match and at the same time make decisions out of these equity tables and doubling match.

3. If you are to leave a blot make sure that you placed your checker in the best position so that it's not hit.

4. Always consider the move of your opponent. Know the reason why your opponent makes that move.

5. You have to make a move only if you have planned feasible alternatives.

Tips for Backgammon players

1. Do not ask questions while you peel them off. If you're on the act of bearing off your opponent take the entire checker with your dice if you can.

2. "No-Risk Double" Double if you can especially when your opponent is winning the match and you are losing. With this move you have nothing to lose.

3. Do not bury the checkers. This means do not place your checkers on low points at an early stage of the game. This can prevent you from making right moves later in the game.

4. When you position your checkers to bear-off your opponent and then you found out that there is no chance for you being hit or hit your opponent you should not make an even distribution. The best strategy here is having a big stack on the 6-point then making your way down to 4-point or 3-point.
